my story:

Scott Klinker’s work in furniture and lighting explores a space between design, architecture, art, and craft. While trained as an industrial designer, his vision is applied through an architectural lens – always questioning the ways in which humans inhabit space.

Scott Klinker Design Studio strikes a balance between industry projects and cultural projects, working with design-driven industry partners such as Herman-Miller, Alessi, Steelcase, Landscape Forms, Burton Snowboards, and others. Klinker’s industry projects have been recognized with numerous professional awards and his limited edition works are currently represented by Playground Detroit.

His practice is based at Cranbrook Academy of Art in Bloomfield Hills, MI where he has served as Designer-in-Residence since 2001 running the graduate 3D Design program. In that time, Scott has mentored over 150 young designers from around the world. This space of academic research and experimentation has deeply informed his theory, practice and methods while building a wide network of creative peers.

Scott is an alumnus of Cranbrook Academy of Art, IDEO in Palo Alto, and Sony Ericsson. Prior to teaching at Cranbrook he taught Design in Japan for two years at the Kanazawa International Design Institute.
